In today's highly competitive business environment, many professionals
in business and industry are facing analytical and design challenges
that require ever more sophisticated approaches and tactics.
This unique meeting will bring together people from industry, universities, and the software industry who share a common interest in using advanced mathematical modelling and sophisticated computing techniques such as computer algebra. The meeting will address the complex challenges faced by modern industry. Professionals in business and industry will find it a useful introduction to techniques to improve their analytical and design processes.
The conference is a part of the outreach mandate of the Ontario Research
Centre for Computer Algebra, and the Fields Institute to support the
ongoing education of the professional public on the benefits of mathematical
and computer algebraic techniques.
There will be two keynote lectures by international speakers on industrial problem solving; in additon, there will be two lecture sessions in which people from industry will describe problems they are working on or problems they have solved; finally, there will be a survey lecture reviewing software packages available for industrial problems.
Clifton Williamson, Seagate Technologies. "Mathematical problems from the computer industry."
Raya Khanin, Cambridge University, UK. "Case studies from Britain."
As part of the outreach program of ORCCA and the Fields Institute, there is no fee for the conference. However, all attendees must register here to obtain a lunch ticket.
The workshop is interested in obtaining more contributions from industry and business. Specifically, we hope to hear about both solved and unsolved mathematical problems that have been encountered in industrial situations. Contributions can range in length from very short, to 30 minutes.

The Ontario Research Centre for Computer Algebra (ORCCA) performs fundamental research and development in mathematical software, focusing on computer algebra. The Centre was founded in 1999 with the support of government and private sector sources. Faculty from the University of Waterloo and the University of Western Ontario conduct research on a range of topics in computer algebra including: languages and environments, symbolic-numeric algorithms, and software for mathematical communication.
The Fields Institute is a center for mathematical research activity - a place where mathematicians from Canada and abroad, from business, industry and financial institutions, can come together to carry out research and formulate problems of mutual interest. Our mission is to provide a supportive and stimulating environment for mathematics innovation and education. The Fields Institute promotes mathematical activity in Canada and helps to expand the application of mathematics in modern society.
Waterloo Maple is a world leader
in mathematical software for mathematicians, scientists, and engineers.
Its products are based on the leading computer algebra technology capable
of solving and managing complex mathematical information in symbolic,
numeric, and graphical ways. Maple products are widely used in academic
institutions and industries around the world, and in most disciplines
of mathematics, engineering, and science.
