Mathematics On-Line Working Meeting
November 15-17

On-line teaching and learning is quickly becoming a significant part of curriculum delivery for universities, colleges, and elementary and secondary schools. In particular, there has been a movement toward providing on-line learning experiences in Mathematics. First, Mathematics educators must become aware of the move toward on-line delivery of our subject area. They must then identify the advantages and disadvantages of on-line instruction. Finally, they must be prepared to mold or adapt on-line modules and courses to ensure that each student's learning experience is rich and meaningful.

The Field's Institute is pleased to host the initial three-day "Mathematics On-Line Working Meeting." It will begin with a public forum on the evening of Thursday, November 15, 2001 and continue with small working groups (by invitation) through the day of Friday, November 16th and the morning of Saturday, November 17th. Shortly after the conclusion of these meetings, a white paper will be published that will identify the key issues for on-line learning in Mathematics. It will also include proposals for "next steps" regarding additional research and consultation with a view to ensuring that mathematics on-line learning is both rich and effective for students.
