THE
FIELDS INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH IN MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES
|
Overview
The topics to be covered in the focus weeks are:
- Perturbation/Approximation Methods in General Relativity. These include
post-Newtonian and post-Minkowskian theory, black hole perturbations, effective
field theory, and numerical relativity.
- The constraint equations on the initial data, and Mass-Momentum inequalities.
- Black hole stability and the approach to singularity. This includes blackhole
formation in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime, the stability of the
Kerr black hole, the formation of null singularities inside black holes,
and the dynamics of spacetime near a cosmological singularity.
- Wave equations and their numerical study. The focus here will be mostly
on wave equations that are not directly tied to General Relativity, but
where the techniques used are potentially relevant for Einstein's equations.
