Workshop on the Theory and Applications of Stochastic Partial Differential Equations
Description
The area of SPDEs has been growing steadily in the past 30 years, providing new techniques for analyzing complex systems whose behaviour is subject to random perturbations. SPDEs can be used for modelling a wide range of physical phenomena, encountered in statistical mechanics, mathematical physics, theoretical neuroscience, fluid dynamics and mathematical finance.
The workshop will have two main goals. One is to bring together internationally renowned researchers working on various topics related to the theory and applications of SPDEs, to exchange the latest results and generate novel ideas for research directions and applications. This goal will be achieved through invited and contributed talks, as well as through informal discussions in smaller groups. The other is to introduce graduate students and young researchers to this area, which has a long tradition of excellence in the mathematical sciences in Canada.
In addition to talks given by world-experts in this area, the workshop will contain 4 expository lectures (of 90 minutes each) given by internationally renowned researchers Robert Dalang (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and David Nualart (University of Kansas), intended for graduate students and researchers who are not experts in the field.
The workshop will also contain a poster session. Participants who are interested in presenting a poster are advised to contact the organizers before June 1, 2019. Confirmed poster presenters are: Thomas Delerue (Technical University of Munich), Pierre-Yves Gaudreau-Lamarre (Princeton University), Luca Giordano (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona), Adrian Hinojosa (Universitat de Barelona), Sandra Kliem (Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main), Cheuk Yin Lee (Michigan State University), Yier Lin (Columbia University), Alexandra Neamtu (Technical University of Munich), Jan Pospisil (University of West Bohemia), Fei Pu (University of Utah), Mickey Salins (Boston University), Xiong Wang (University of Alberta), Panqiu Xia (University of Kansas), Wangjun Yuan (University of Hong Kong), Guangqu Zheng (University of Kansas).
Titles and abstracts of posters are available here.
The registration fee of C$185 includes coffee breaks and lunch, which will be served on site.
Participants registering for the workshop will have the option to sign up for an excursion to Niagara Falls and the Niagara region, scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, June 12, 2019. This excursion will be conducted by a licenced Niagara Falls tour guide, which will include full commentary throughout the afternoon. The cost of the excursion is C\$65 base fee (including tax and tip). The departure time is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. from Fields Institute, with an approximate return time 8:00 p.m. There is a 2-hour drive between the Fields Institute and Niagara Falls.
