Fields CQAM was created in response to the need for highly skilled quantitative scientists capable of deploying techniques and methodologies that advance discovery in Ontario’s booming technological sector. Leveraging collaborations with our industry partners, Fields-CQAM’s network of research and training labs based across the province worked on solving real-world problems in science and technology while training a new pool of quantitative scientists to rapidly translate innovation from ideas to implementation.

Labs associated with an Ontario universities benefited from Fields’ position as a hub for mathematics with formal partnerships with 17 Ontario-based Universities, connections to other institutions across Canada and with a global reach and recognition. This positioned Fields as a natural host for cross-institutional collaborations and partnerships within academia.

The Fields Institute has a long history of connecting industry with academic mathematics to work on problems of mutual benefit. It had also incubated eight successful companies between 1999 and 2016. Through these, and other efforts, Fields has acquired strong and productive relationships within industry.

All of this came together in Fields CQAM:

• 11 labs, $2.71 Million industrial money invested
• 6 incubated start-ups
• 40 non-Academic partners, including 33 from industry and 7 from NGOs and government agencies
• 89 Professional Development and Continuing Education programs (Thematic & Focus Programs, Workshops, Seminars, undergraduate training & public events)

This project was conducted as a 2-year pilot and was intended to run until June 30, 2020. Due to pandemic-induced restrictions, the pilot was extended for one year.

Fields CQAM was replaced in 2022 with Fields Multiplier.
