Centres
Learn more about Centres for research and collaboration at the Fields Institute.
A Centre is an umbrella organization providing visibility and identification to a specific area in the mathematical sciences. Typically, but not exclusively, the subject area is an interdisciplinary one and benefits from expertise cutting across departmental lines, as well as academic, industrial, and governmental divides.
Centre membership is broad and open, primarily composed of individual members including scientists, scholars, practitioners and public officials. Industrial and commercial partnerships are encouraged, with such partners becoming Corporate Members of the Institute. Each Centre has a Director and a Steering Committee, which defines its scientific direction and leads collaborative effort with other worldwide groups and institutions.
A Centre's activities include workshops, conferences, thematic programs, seminars, lectures, training and public outreach events. Activities may take place either at the Institute or its Partner Universities in Canada or abroad, and are eligible for funding, according to the procedures applicable to the nature of the activity.
Through diverse membership, wide-ranging activities and global presence, a Centre aims to catalyze scientific activity, enhance engagement with the subject area, and increase public outreach and awareness.
Centre for Financial Industries
Consolidating the Institute's leadership position in quantitative finance, the Centre for Financial Industries is a focal point for activities in the area of mathematical finance providing for collaboration between researchers, practitioners and corporate partners.
Centre for Mathematical Medicine
Formed as a consolidation of existing research initiatives, the Centre for Mathematical Medicine is an organization unique within Canada. As a nidus for researchers from medicine and mathematics, it focuses on mathematics related to therapeutic challenges in medicine, and organizes teaching programs, workshops, and seminar series.
Centre for Mathematics Education
Mathematics education and promotion of mathematics have been on the agenda of the Institute since its inception. The Centre for Mathematics Education brings together faculties, departments, educators, industry and the general public on topics related to mathematical education, both within Canada and globally.
Centre for Quantitative Analysis and Modelling
The Fields Centre for Quantitative Analysis and Modelling (Fields CQAM) was created in response to the need for a critical mass of highly-skilled quantitative scientists capable of deploying the cutting-edge techniques and methodologies required to advance discovery in Ontario’s booming technological sector.
NRC-Fields Mathematical Sciences Collaboration Centre
The NRC-Fields Mathematical Sciences Collaboration Centre is an innovative research hub that is home to scientists from the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Fields Institute for Mathematical Sciences (Fields).
