Despite the immense progresses made over the last decades in mathematical biology, the multifaceted nature of biological processes still represents an enormous challenge for mathematical modeling. This workshop will focuss on those aspects of living systems where a large number of agents interact, generating complex dynamics and thus general mathematical tools from fluid mechanics are relevant.

Examples of applications are numerous.

• The dynamics of bacterial communities, swimming in a fluid.
• Dynamics of living issues and applications to tumor growth.
• Developmental biology
• Flocking and collective movement of animals

Mathematical analysis has been very active these last years in these subjects. Among the common methods, one can mention: nonlinear analysis of Partial Differential equations, particle systems, kinetic equations, multiscale analysis, macroscopic limits, concentration (consensus) effects, traveling waves, free boundaries, geometric dynamics, fluid-structure interaction... Beyond its focus on analytical and PDE aspects of the field, presentations are also expected to cover numerical and probabilistic approaches to these questions.

The goal of this programme is three-fold: Emphasize the role of Analysis and Partial Differential Equations in understanding biological phenomena, foster cooperation among researchers in those subject areas from everywhere in the world, and expose students and researchers to challenging problems in the fields of living systems (ecology, biology and medicine).
