In this talk, I will present the general energetic variational approaches for various diffusion in different environments. I will discuss consider the transport of charged particles and ions with biological applications, such as those in dynamics of ion channels. In particular, I will explore the connections to the theories developed for other complex fluids. Focus will be on the boundary conditions and also the coupling with heat transfer.
