Abstract:
Climate change will continue to have a significant impact on the insurance industry, affecting it through both its investment and underwriting activities. This session will provide an overview of the climate related risks channels, and how they impact different segments of the insurance industry (e.g. Pensions, Life & Health, and Property & Casualty). Actuaries play vital roles in these organizations, assisting them in managing risk. The session will also discuss the work of the actuarial profession in addressing climate change, and in particular, spotlight some of the risk management initiatives currently being undertaken by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
