Abstract:
The cardinal characteristics of the real line arise from various combinatorial, topological and measure theoretic properties of the real line. Their study is closely related to the development of major forcing techniques among which template iterations, matrix iterations and creature forcing. In this talk, we will focus on the independent and almost disjoint families, outline some recent results regarding their definability and spectrum, and point out interesting open problems.
