Abstract:
Starting with a short tour showing how local ampleness of line bundles on projective varieties permeates various areas of geometry, we will present ideas that lead to a precise understanding of syzygies of low-dimensional abelian varieties. The techniques we rely on are a mix of convex and projective geometry in the form of Newton-Okounkov bodies.
