I will discuss a proof of a conjecture of Eskin-Kontsevich-Moeller-Zorich computing Lyapunov exponents in certain examples that go beyond the usual situations that appear in Teichmuller dynamics. After providing the necessary background, I will explain the techniques, which involve interesting examples of discrete subgroups in higher-rank Lie groups.
