Abstract:
Methods will be presented for an approach to geophysical forecasting emphasizing the challenges of large spatiotemporal chaos, disparate time scales (as for atmospheric weather, oceans, and climate), combination of data and scientific knowledge, geographic heterogeneity, system nonstationarity (as in climate change and prediction of tipping points). Recent results on weather forecasting and climate will be presented.
