Math Anxiety in Elementary School
Math to many people is scary. Just ask people to recount their math stories from school and you will get a wide range of those that loved it to those that felt sick with worry over answering questions in the dreaded game of around the world. Not much has changed. Today, we will explore math anxiety and how it impacts students' perceptions of ability, confidence and risk taking. We will also discuss how teachers own math anxiety impacts pedagogical approaches and also influences student interest in math.
Bio:
Tasleem Ladak-Haidari (M.Ed) has been in the field of education for 16 years. She is currently a Special Education Resource Teacher with the York Region District School Board, where she is a lead learner and instructional leader in her school and board. Tasleem has wide range of experiences in the primary, junior and intermediate divisions. She recently completed her Math specialist and is the Equity lead at her school and is on the Equity Steering Committee for the YRDSB.
