Abstract:
'll present some ongoing work studying the long-time and large-space asymptotic behavior of a new large class of solutions of the KdV equation introduced by Dyachenko, Zakharov, and Zakharov. These solutions are characterized by a Riemann-Hilbert problem which we will show arises as the $N \to \infty$ limit of a gas of $N$ solitons. We will establish asymptotic descriptions valid for large times in terms of Jacobi elliptic functions away from some exceptional points where a technical issue arises. As time permits, I will describe these exceptional points and our steps to overcome these technical issues. This is joint work with Manuela Girotti, Tamara Grava, and Ken McLaughlin.
