Abstract:
I will discuss the shock formation process for the 3d non-isentropic Euler equations in which sound waves interact with entropy waves to produce vorticity. The analysis requires parameterizing the a priori unknown steepening wave front (which plays the role of the free surface) and tracking its geometry, using specially designed modulated self-similar variables and coordinates.
