Abstract:
One reason why right-angled Artin groups and right-angled Coxeter groups have been such a source of examples in geometric group theory is the connection that they have with polyhedral products. I will present a survey of some related results, including the Davis-Januszkiewicz embedding of RAAGs as finite-index subgroups of RACGs, and the first two potential families of counterexamples to the infamous Eilenberg-Ganea conjecture (due to Bestvina-Davis and Bestvina-Brady). Using a result of Taras Panov, I will explain why the examples coming from RACGs are somehow more fundamental. Any new results in this talk are joint with Nansen Petrosyan.
