Teaching and Learning Between the Lines
This session will highlight connections between mathematics and visual arts in terms of historical events/characters, integrated curriculum, student projects, print/web resources, and some fun hands-on, whole-brain activities.
Bio: Dan Jarvis is a Professor of Graduate, Mathematics, and Visual Arts Education in the Schulich School of Education at Nipissing University, North Bay, Ontario, Canada. He holds a Ph.D. in Education Studies from the University of Western Ontario, a M.Ed. and B.Ed. from Nipissing University, and a B.A. from the University of Waterloo. With a unique background in the areas of mathematics and visual arts, he has taught both topics at the secondary and post-secondary levels. His research interests include integrated curricula, instructional technology, mathematics of the workplace, and teacher professional learning. Dan is the co-author (with Dr. Irene Naested) of the book, Exploring the Math and Art Connection: Teaching and Learning Between the Lines (Brush Education, 2012).
