Designing competitive floating offshore wind turbines leads to challenging optimization problems at different levels : design of the wind turbine system, of the floater, and also design of the mooring lines. In this talk we illustrate the potential of derivative free trust region optimization methods for the minimization of the cost of the mooring system under reliability constraints regarding extreme environmental conditions (waves and wind).
