Abstract:
This is the first of two talks devoted to the construction of global Birkhoff coordinates
of the Benjamin-Ono equation on the torus, in collaboration with Patrick Gérard.
It is based on the Lax pair formulation of this equation. In this first talk we present
a spectral analysis of the Lax operator, discuss a generating function of the Benjamin-Ono
hierarchy, which allows to establish various trace formulas, and introduce our candidates for
Birkhoff coordinates.
