Shape deformation can be described as geodesic equations of an invariant metric on a group, another example of the generalised Euler equations characterised by Arnold in 1966. In these two talks I will introduce shape analysis as a field and then describe this geometric setting, considering choices that can be made, and how they fit into the overall framework.
