Abstract:
I'll begin with an introduction to Lagrangian Floer theory (in the simplified, exact setting). Then I'll give an introduction to spectra, motivated by the idea of wanting to find "abelian groups" in topology. Though Lagrangian Floer theory often gives rise to chain complexes as invariants, I'll try to sketch why spectra are expected to naturally arise in many instances.
