A smooth compactification of strata of differentials

Abstract:
The stratum is the locus of curves together with a differential with prescribed multiplicities of zeroes; it is the phase space of the action of SL(2,R) in Teichmuller dynamics. We construct a new geometric smooth compactification of the stratum, and describe some of its properties. Based on joint work in progress with Matt Bainbridge, Dawei Chen, Quentin Gendron, Martin Moeller.
