In this lecture, we will introduce a variant of the cone calculus, called the b-calculus, and present the fundamental results that permit us to prove Hodge and index theorems in the setting of noncompact manifolds with cylindrical or scattering ends. Again, we see how topological obstructions appear to the analysis in these settings. We will also see how rigged Hilbert spaces arise in Hodge theorem proofs.
