Abstract:
We will discuss multiple M2-branes in a S$^1$/Z$_2$ orbifold. The resulting theory is anomalous additional states are required at the boundaries - leading to a three-dimensional Chern Simons theory with charged edge modes (as is common in condensed matter physics). Compactifying to ten-dimensions leads to the world sheet action of multiple heterotic E8xE8 strings - providing a world volume analogue of the classic Horava-Witten analysis.
