About the Speaker
Bjorn Engquist is currently CAM Chair I Professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Texas at Austin. He received his PhD 1975 from Uppsala University and after that he has been professor at UCLA, Uppsala University, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and Princeton University. Engquist is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. His earlier work includes the development of absorbing boundary conditions, homogenization theory and nonlinear high-resolution schemes for fluid dynamics. He is presently working on computational multiscale methods and fast numerical algorithms for wave propagation with applications in seismology.
