Statistics Graduate Student Research Day 2021
Applications of Data Science in Life Sciences, Genetics and Genomics
Description
The Statistics Graduate Student Research Day is an annual one-day conference jointly organized by the Department of Statistical Sciences (DoSS) and the Statistics Graduate Student Union (SGSU). The purpose of Research Day is to provide graduate students exposure to current methods, leading experts, and important topical themes in the field of statistics. The theme for Research Day 2021 is Applications of Data Science in Life Sciences, Genetics and Genomics.
The day consists of four invited talks given by top international researchers and presentations given by graduate students in the DoSS. Graduate students and researchers from all institutions are welcome to attend this event, with a particular emphasis placed on graduate student participation.
The Statistics Graduate Student Research Day is dedicated to the late Don Fraser who played a leading part in establishing the Department of Statistics at the University of Toronto. Don Fraser was also a mentor and advocate for graduate students having supervised 55 doctoral students and recognized by numerous statisticians for the mentorship that he provided in starting their careers. For more information about Don Fraser and his life, visit: https://www.statistics.utoronto.ca/news/eulogy-donald-s-fraser-1925-2020
This event also has the goal of showcasing graduate student activity. All statistical graduate students work actively to develop new research within their respective research fields. The following is a sample of graduate student work in the form of published papers that include a graduate student as part of the authorship, https://www.statistics.utoronto.ca/research/student-publication-highlights#tang-pubs-accordion-1
Thank you to Nnenna Asidianya, Sonia Markes, Marija Pejcinovska, and Sabrina Sixta who will be moderating and presenting the speakers.
