Abstract:
Let K be an NIP field and v a henselian valuation on K. In this talk, we investigate the question whether the valued field (K,v) is NIP. There are two separate cases to consider: in case the residue field Kv is non-separably closed, v turns out to be externally definable and hence (K,v) is NIP. Otherwise, v is not necessarily externally definable. Nonetheless, (K,v) is also NIP as a pure valued field in this case, but this may fail with extra structure.
