Abstract:
In this talk, I'll discuss some of the topics which will be covered in the first module of the graduate course on O-minimality and applications. I'll start with the definition of o-minimality, and a few examples of o-minimal structures. Then I'll introduce the Pila-Wilkie Theorem, which gives bounds on the number of rational points of bounded height lying on the transcendental part of a definable set. I'll also mention the Yomdin-Gromov parameterization theorem which plays an important role in the proof of the Pila-Wilkie Theorem. At the end of the talk, if there is time, I might mention some more recent developments.
