What is the state of mathematics education in high school outside the classroom. From extra help to extra-curricular lectures, what are teachers doing to help all levels of math students do better besides teaching math in their classes?

Bio:

Jeff started teaching mathematics (and computer programming) in 1985. He has been a classroom teacher in Ontario in both private and public schools and in alternative and traditional programs. He is currently teaching at Sherwood Secondary School in Hamilton.
