Conway's surreal numbers form a large real closed field containing 'all numbers great and small', including reals and ordinals. On the other hand, transseries are rich asymptotic expansions forming a 'field with no escape', closed for instance under integration and taking compositional inverses. We shall give a presentation of Conway's surreal numbers focusing on the connections with transseries and Hardy fields and the related recent results.
