Abstract:
This talk will be on the theme of recovering precise data from coarse data, in the context of billiards. The main theorem is that if you just know the symbolic dynamics of a billiard table, you can figure out the precise Euclidean geometry of the table (up to similarity, with very limited exceptions). This is joint work with Viveka Erlandsson, Chris Leininger, and Chandrika Sadanand.
