I will discuss joint work with Ehud De Shalit (Hebrew U) on Picard modular surfaces in positive characteristic. These surfaces are moduli spaces for abelian three-folds with an action of a quadratic imaginary field. We study their stratifications in positive characteristic (including enumerative aspects), modular forms and theta operators, and the analog of Γ_0(p) level structure.
